How Many Mini or Small Cushions Do I Need?
At our small cushions collection page, we want to help you choose the right number of cushions for your space. It can be tricky to know where to begin, but we've got some recommendations to get you started.
For a 2-2.5 seater sofa, we suggest starting with 2 big cushions or 2 essential couch pillows, and 1 junior (small) cushion to build a foundation of comfortable lounging.
If you have a 3 seater sofa, more room means more cushions! We recommend styling together 4-5 big cushions or essential cushions for a luxuriously full aesthetic.
For a 4 seater sofa, you can bring your couch to life with 4-6 big couch cushions or essential couch cushions. Add 2 lumbar cushions and 2 junior (small) cushions as the cherry on top.
When it comes to beds, for a queen-sized bed, we love the look of 2 big bed cushions on either side, followed by 2 essential cushions. You can then choose between a lumbar or junior cushion to complete the look. For bigger or smaller beds, you have the freedom to add or take away as many cushions as you like, thanks to the versatility and design of our cushions.
How To Choose Your Small or Mini Cushions?
When it comes to small cushions, choosing the right ones is all about personal preference and the style and energy you want to bring into your space. Fortunately, our cushion collections offer a wide range of colours and materials to suit any interior.
To start, it's important to observe your existing space and identify colours, materials, and artwork that would complement Hommey's cushion covers. Adding cushions thoughtfully can enhance the look of a space, so take it slow and start with what works.
For those who prefer a muted and minimalist aesthetic, our Linen and Corduroy cushion collections will bring a new layer of comfort for ultimate rest and relaxation. On the other hand, if you're after bursts of bright and eclectic colours, our signature Bouclé and Velvet cushion collections will be perfect for you.

Do Small Cushions Need Covers?
For small cushions, we suggest adding a cushion cover over your Hommey cushion inserts. This will not only bring more colour, interest, and depth to your space, but it will also protect the cushion inserts and ensure that your cushions last longer. By taking this simple step, you can enjoy your cushions for many years to come.
How Do I Look After My Small Mini Cushions?
Machine Washable Cushion Covers
For small cushions, if the care tag on the cushion product says that the cushion cover is machine washable, it's easy to clean. Simply unzip the cushion cover and remove it from the cushion. Then, place the cushion cover in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild, natural detergent. Be sure to zip up the cushion cover before washing it to prevent it from tangling.
After washing, you can hang the cushion cover outside on a line to dry. Alternatively, to avoid shrinkage, you can place the damp cushion cover back onto the cushion and let it dry while molding itself to the shape of the cushion for a perfect fit.
Hand Washing Couch Cushions
For small cushions: Before attempting to remove stains from your cushion cover, check the care tag to see if it is safe to machine wash. If not, follow these steps to get rid of stubborn stains. First, remove the cushion cover from the cushion insert to prevent damage. Then, in a spray bottle, mix 1 cup of white vinegar, 1 cup of water, and 2 tablespoons of all-natural dish soap. Lightly spray the stained area and let it sit for a minute. Next, gently dab the stain with a cloth until it disappears, being careful not to damage the cushion cover fibers. Once the stain is gone, use a separate damp cloth to rinse the spot with clean water.
For strong odors, sprinkle baking soda on the cushion cover and leave it overnight before repeating the above steps. After removing the stain, give the entire cushion cover a gentle cleaning by adding a drop or two of natural dish soap to a damp cloth and wiping the entire surface of the cushion. Repeat until all dirt is removed, then rinse with a new damp cloth to remove any remaining soap.
How Often Should I Clean My Small Mini Cushion Covers?
It's important to include cleaning and maintaining your cushion covers in your regular cleaning routine to keep them fresh. Vacuuming your cushion covers once a week will help remove any dirt and dust, and washing them every three months will help prolong their lifespan. If you notice a stain, it's best to clean it up as soon as possible to make it easier to remove. After you've completed the regular maintenance, you can sit back and enjoy your space with fresh and clean cushions.
